I, Mike Brownell, am submitting my Statement of Intent to run for the Board of Directors.

I am running for the Board because I believe Dallas Makerspace needs strong governance, greater transparency, and serious attention to its financial direction. Recent budget trends should concern all of us, and I believe we need a slate of board members who are ready to do the hard work of leading a nonprofit of this size and complexity.

My background has given me experience in solving practical problems, working through complex projects, and focusing on results. I value accountability, clear communication, and making sure effort is directed where it will do the most good. I would bring that same mindset to board service and to the work of helping the Makerspace operate more effectively and responsibly.

The community at Dallas Makerspace is also deeply important to me. It is one of the reasons I am willing to step up, because the people, knowledge, and shared effort that make this place special are worth protecting and strengthening.

This is not a ceremonial role. It requires dedication, sound judgment, and a willingness to make difficult decisions in the best interest of the organization. I am also hopeful that other candidates will step forward who are equally committed to the work, because the future of the Makerspace depends on steady, responsible leadership.

Just as important, we must respect and protect the time and energy of our volunteers. Volunteer effort is one of the Makerspace’s most valuable resources, and it should be directed toward the highest and best use of both the individual and the organization. Good leadership means creating clarity, reducing unnecessary friction, and making sure the work people do truly moves the Makerspace forward.

If elected, I want to help strengthen accountability, improve transparency, and support a culture where volunteers can succeed without burning out.
