Statement of Intent – Board of Directors (2026–2027) - Dallas Makerspace
I respectfully submit my candidacy for election to the Board of Directors of Dallas Makerspace.
First and foremost, I am a woodworker. I build acoustic guitars, and Dallas Makerspace has been indispensable to that work. It has provided the bridge between the limitations of my personal shop and the level of craftsmanship I aim to achieve. I am in the space most days, actively engaged in both building and learning.
Last year, with the support of Makerspace tools and, even more importantly, the generosity and expertise of fellow members, one of my guitars received First Place at the State Fair of Texas in Wood Inlay, First Place in Woodworking, and Best of Show in the Designer Craftsman category. That recognition would not have been possible without this community.
What makes Dallas Makerspace truly exceptional is not just its equipment, but its people. I have never encountered a community so willing to share time, knowledge, and encouragement. For example, a fellow member devoted countless hours helping me learn to use the CNC machine so I could successfully inlay an abalone logo into my guitar headstocks. That spirit of collaboration is what makes this organization special—and worth serving.
In addition to my hands-on involvement, I bring 42 years of experience as a business lawyer, with a focus on Chapter 11 reorganizations and corporate restructuring. My career has centered on addressing complex financial and governance challenges—evaluating financial statements, managing debt, and developing practical, sustainable solutions. These are areas where I understand Dallas Makerspace is currently facing challenges, and where I believe I can contribute meaningfully.
Finally, I recently retired from the practice of law. Why is this a “credential?” Because despite our best intentions, work often necessarily takes first chair in our lives to the expense of other good, but unpaid, intentions like sitting on Boards. Retirement allows me to offer something essential for board service: time, availability, and focus. While I continue to spend many hours woodworking, my time is my own, and I am committed to dedicating the time necessary to serve effectively.
I welcome the opportunity to hear from fellow members—their concerns, ideas, and priorities—and to work collaboratively to strengthen Dallas Makerspace for the future.
Thank you for your consideration.
