Room Rules

  1. Adhere to all Dallas Makerspace site-wide rules.
  2. Report any damaged equipment or messes that require special clean-up
  3. Bring your own consumables (fabrics, patterns, pattern paper, needles, pins thread, etc.). 
  4. No food or open drinks allowed. Cups with sealable lids are ok. 
  5. Please clean up after working on machines or cutting tables. Including vacuuming and using the metal magnet to pickup any needles or pins that fell on the floor. 
  6. No personal storage
  7. Avoid disrupting classes or events taking place in the sewing room
  8. Training on all machines is required. No non-member may use any machines for any reason.  
  9. Sewing 101 is a requirement to use the Babylock Zests and any other machine training. 
  10. Additional training required for the sergers, Pfaff, industrials, and embroidery machines. Please contact Machine Lead for training.
  11. Any external outreach for sponsorships, fundraising, or donations (DMS approach) must be approved by the DMS Board. 

Failure to comply with the rules shall result in corrective or disciplinary action as outlined in the Disciplinary Action Model.


Other rules (under review)

  • Contact [email protected] for questions or to request classes. Sewing discord is also a good source.
  • Believe the signs- signs elsewhere in DMS are not accurate. Signs here ARE accurate. *They will also change as we grow over the coming months.

Item Specific Rules

  • Bobbins: DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN. ‘Universal’ bobbins are being sold as class 15 bobbins. It is damaging machines. We have many for sale at cost ($1 for 2 bobbins).
  • Needles: Use what you need. Needles are in the boxes next to the machines. If you break more than 1 needle per visit, you need to assess the needle type, materials, or sewing technique.
  • Thread Types:  Thread that is out is available for use, however it is donated. Sewing does not buy/stock thread. If you need a particular type or color of thread for your project, you must bring it.
    1. Babylock (spools)
    2. Pfaff/BCMG (will be by the BCMG machine, not there yet)
    3. Serger (cones)
  • Draft Rulers. Do not use rotary cutters with the floppy 18x2 rulers.
