Description:
The woodshop has a Felder RL350 Dust Collector to help keep the shop clean and minimize dust. It is important to open the dust collection blast gate to the machine/tool prior to using it and to close it after you are done (this improves the dust collection to the other machines).
If the Felder does not start, make sure that the local disconnect is enabled and the three-position rotary switch [located left of the local disconnect above the green button] is turned to the clockwise position [toward the wall]. If the rotary switch is turned counterclockwise [toward the room], the Felder will be in a cleaning mode and occasionally blow air backward to try to purge/clean the filters.
The biggest problem with the dust collector is it is not being emptied enough. Please check the dust collection cart if you are not sure when the last time it was emptied. Always stop and empty the machine if the yellow warning light is illuminated. If the unit gets too full, the sawdust will back up and start clogging the filters – greatly affecting the collection’s performance.
Emptying when full:
Steps:
- Turn off the dust collector [red button on the side of the machine]
- Turn local disconnect off [rotary switch next to red button] - doing this will prevent the cleaning burst from happening
- Raise the bar which will lower the cart and allow it to pull out from under the machine
- Take full bags out and put them on a roll-around cart [they aren’t too heavy just bulky]
- Empty bags [but save them] in the dumpster at the end of the automotive ramp - try and be upwind of the dumpster, the sawdust does blow around
- Reinstall bags back in the cart
- Push the cart back into place under the machine
- Lower bar**
- Turn on local disconnect [rotary switch next to the read button]
- Turn the dust collector on [green button on the side of the machine]
** Getting the cart back into place is the biggest pain of the sequence. If you look in the hole where the cart goes, you can see the two rails the bar rides along - make sure they are not covered in sawdust. Sometimes “resetting” the cart (lowering and raising the bar) a couple of times is necessary to get a decent seal between the cart and the machine.
