My name is Julie Harris, Julie-Harris on Talk, and this is formal notice of my intent to run for reelection re-election to the board of directors for Dallas Makerspace Board of Directors. I have been a member of Dallas Makerspace since 2016 and I have served on the board since 2019.  Other positions held at Dallas Makerspace include President, Secretary, PR Coordinator, Education Coordinator and Digital Media chair.  

I would like to continue to volunteer my time to serve on the board of Dallas Makerspace because I believe in the mission of education and collaboration.  I also believe that knowledge and opportunity should be available to everyone.  Serving on the board has been one of my most rewarding experiences and I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve for another term.  If I am not elected, I will continue to volunteer and contribute to DMS.

My background is in accounting and I currently work as a fractional controller for several clients.  When I’m not volunteering for Dallas Makerspace, I am working on my own projects at DMS, hiking and spending time with friends and family.  

Director & Officer accomplishments include:

• Lease renewal with TI allowance - negotiated to add Automotive to the renewal
• Effectively responded to challenges presented by COVID-19
• Lobby remodel
• Established a management structure to separate the board from day to day operations and increase accountability
• Recovered from negative cash flow and improved cash management
• Increased professionalism and efficiency of board meetings

Goals for the next term:

• Take advantage of the tenant improvement allowance to improve the appearance of Dallas Makerspace
• Support efforts to create online content for both PR and education
• Continue work to keep DMS a positive place for people to learn and make
• Continue to recruit new members
• Support PR and fundraising efforts
