My name is Joshua Freedman and I am excited to post this statement of intent for the 2023 DMS Board of Directors election.

Over the past couple of years as a member of DMS, I have engaged in numerous personal and space related projects across E-Lab, 3D Fab, Creative Arts, Digital Media, Woodshop, and more. My involvement with the infrastructure team has not only allowed me to connect with more members but also given me a deeper understanding of the inner workings and dynamics of our space.

As a board member, I pledge to:

1. Maintain a friendly, safe, and transparent environment with as little drama as possible while raising awareness about DMS in the nearby communities.
2. Prioritize our instructors' needs, ensuring they have the resources and support to deliver engaging and educational classes. Work to streamline class registration and handling, making it more accessible for all members. Additionally, to encourage new instructors and promote the development of classes that help open the space up to more members of the area.
3. Enhance safety standards throughout the Makerspace, promoting a safe and secure environment for everyone to create, learn, and grow. 
4. Ensure that our facilities remain stable, efficient, and well-maintained, particularly in light of the upcoming expansion plans. 

With a background in software engineering, focusing on security and infrastructure, I bring valuable technical expertise to the Board.  Furthermore, my diverse experience in multiple non-profit organizations, ranging from president to volunteer, equips me with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute effectively to the Board.  I strongly believe in the Maker/hacker space idea and was thrilled when I moved to an area that had such a large and well established community, and I want to ensure that other makers can enjoy DMS the way I have.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time biking, sewing/leather working, developing software, and working on graphics design projects. Recently I’ve also been learning about circuit design and machining.
