I, Thomas Fagan, am submitting my Statement of Intent to run for the Board of Directors.

DMS is an amazing place that I'm proud to be a member of and I'm excited to be able to contribute to the space's longevity, future and wellbeing.  The space is so many things to so many people it is both challenging and rewarding to balance the needs of the members and a sustainable trajectory for the space.

Things you should know about me.

  1. I place the Dallas Makerspace, its accessibility, its existence, and its members' safety as the highest priorities.  In short there may be hurt feelings if required to ensure all of those objectives are met.  This is recycled from last year's statement of intent, but I still feel the same way and it is still my highest priority and I am still unapologetic about the means i must implore to achieve the objective(s).
  2. I am the eternal optimist with a positive outlook and generally friendly disposition.
  3. I still push for members to be excellent to each other and the space... I am also harsh on those exhibiting un-excellent behavior and believe in harsh, but just punishments for those in violation of that rule.

Where you'd find me at the space.

I'm usually in the machine shop, automotive area, metal shop, or occasionally the glass area or woodshop.  This is still the same.

My background and skillset.

I am an Electrical Engineer by degree working as a systems engineer with a long work history design engineering, project engineering and systems engineering.  This is the same as last year and likely won't change.

Things I'll strive to achieve as a board member.

  • So I read through these and can't improve upon them so I am just recycling them.
  • Advance the maker experience by ensuring the makerspace remains a place for the membership to build/create with minimal encumbrances of a shared space
  • Improve upon the progress we've made as a community in creating a safe inviting well-equipped workspace for members to learn, create, and build.
  • Help make the volunteering and teaching experience easier and pleasant
  • Lower the impact of unforeseen obstacles while capitalizing on the opportunities

  1. I am so glad that Thomas is running again!  I am excited to endorse Thomas for board.  He is level headed and has the business experience necessary to continue to lead DMS successfully and he understands the Makerspace culture.  Thomas would be a great asset to the next board and to DMS.

  2. I would like to express my support for Thomas to return as a DMS Board member.  In my experience he has always approached issues logically and often asks questions no one else has considered, which I believe is a great skill in a board member.  If he disagrees on an issue, he does a great job of explaining his perspective and considering the other persons opinion  in a respectful manner.  He always seems excited to be at DMS and takes classes in many different areas, and I believe he would continue to be a great board member.

  3. I endorse Thomas for the board again. He has done an excellent job on his previous terms and would be a great asset to the space this upcoming term.
