I, Samuel Mitchell, am submitting my Statement of Intent to run for the Board of Directors.

I have been a member of the Dallas Makerspace for the better part of three years now and have seen this space grow and transform significantly over that period of time. I am also proud to say that I have been a contributor to said progress. For two years, I have been the chair of automotive and spearheaded the revitalization and organization of aforementioned committee to the point in which it has become indispensable to the space. Many people can attest to the transformation of automotive under my stewardship and ability to solve most problems with the car needs such as new tools, cleaner area, more organized and consistent classes whenever my schedule or the vice chair schedules are able to allow.

The transformation to the automotive area underneath my stewardship, should be proof of enough of my ability to transform the maker space into its full potential. My strengths lie in structure, organization, and creation of systems. When you know where the tools are, how to get the information in order to use them effectively for your project or concern, that puts you in a good position to accomplish your goals.

Given the sheer amount of committees and choices we have here at The Makerspace, can leave anybody feeling overwhelmed and intimidated to the point of doing nothing. That’s where I come in. My goal, passion, and hobby is to create paths for people to create and grow. This will allow us to become the best version of ourselves. I aim to create a safe and efficient environment to complete the projects that cultivate and build a greater maker community

  1. I endorse Samuel for the board. In all my time on previous boards I've never worked with an automotive chair that has been as motivational, organized and proactive as Samuel. The job he has done has been fantastic for the whole space not just automotive because he has made great strides into making auto more accessible to everyone and to getting automotive more involved in space wide projects. He will be a fantastic addition to the board.

  2. I’d like to endorse Samuel. Sam and I have had many discussions around marketing and PR (which is my profession). He has been very eager to learn this part of the DMS committee to help promote our expansion projects, how to attract new members through online channels and how to grow the DMS marketing presence within DFW.

Sam is almost always at DMS after business hours; he has a great attitude, approachable personality and always willing to help a new member or answer questions.

I believe Sam to have the integrity and motivation to represent DMS BOD

  3. I am excited to endorse Samuel for board.  He has done wonderful things for automotive and I think he would be a fantastic board member.

  4. Sam has done such an amazing job with automotive it is only logical to see his progression to do great things on the board.   His passion for the space and willingness to step in and help members, as well as, correct members stepping out of lines and removing them if they fail to comply with the rules.  His vigor and passion for the space would make for an excellent board member.

  5. Sam has shown such a huge commitment to automotive, I would love to see him on the board.

He’s tackled unpopular projects, complex projects, and difficult situations with grace. He’s always available to help out on an individual basis and I believe he would steer DMS boldly into its future.

  6. Just like Gregorian calendar we use today, the history of automotive committee is separated into two eras: before Sam Mitchell and after Sam Mitchell. In the automotive calendar, the date is 3 S.M. (The third year of Sam Mitchell).

Before Sam Mitchell, the only people who would touch automotive were board members and officers who simply did not have the time to simultaneously meet their other obligations and give automotive the attention it deserved. Given that automotive is such a high-use committee, only someone with both strong technical knowledge in motor vehicles, good managerial capability, time, and passion can properly meet the challenges of chairing that committee.

After Sam Mitchell, Automotive is far more organized, far less chaotic, far safer, and is actually on the path to being one of DMS's most successful committees. One can hardly believe that just 3 years ago, it was basically a high-use practically-orphaned committee.

To understand Sam psychologically, I would summarize him in the following way: he is, psychologically speaking, one of the most American humans I have ever met at Dallas Makerspace, and that's saying something because DMS tends to have a fairly strong American mindset about what it means to live the good life: self-reliance, well-roundedness, individualism, and a strong, detail-oriented work-ethic in the pursuit of any vocation.

He would be an excellent addition to the DMS Board of Directors.
